Lying close to the French border, Geneva airport has terminals in both Switzerland and France. Most international flights will arrive on the Swiss side and this is where your driver will meet you. Due to the large number of airlines (in particular those offering cheaper flights) and the varied choice of available routes, this is the most popular airport for transfers in our region. The route from Geneva airport to the French Alps takes you alongside Lake Annecy which is renowned for its scenic views. Whilst this route can get quite busy during the peak weeks, there are alternative routes available so our drivers will be able to get you to resort as quickly as possible. Specific journey times to resorts from this airport are indicated on the relevant resort information section. Geneva airport website
Although named Lyon airport, the airport itself is actually about 15 kilmetres from the city of Lyon. As it is one of the major airports in France, there are regular flights arriving at this airport (most UK flights arrive in Terminal 3 at Gate 10) as well as plenty of shops, restaurants and bars for you to enjoy. In terms of mileage, Lyon airport is noticeably further away from the French Alps than Geneva or Chambéry, however the route is largely motorway so, under normal circumstances, the transfer times are not too much longer. The motorways routes from Lyon are the way into the French Alps for the majority of French holidaymakers so beware, these routes can get very busy during the French holidays! Naming this airport “Grenoble” has quite a misleading effect; the airport is actually located about halfway between Grenoble and Lyon so it is in fact much further from the resorts of the Savoie region than you may think. Although petite like Chambéry, it is much quieter and does offer relatively regular flights including cheaper options with Easyjet and Ryanair. Also like Chambéry, when it works well it is very quick to get through the airport. Grenoble airport also has the option of the scenic route through Chartreuse (famous for its local eau de vie!) instead of the motorway and your driver can take you either way assuming that there are no time constraints. Situated slightly east of the city of Chambéry, the airport is the nearest to the resorts in the Savoie region and whilst the availability of flights isn’t quite on the scale of the other airports, there has been a large increase in the airlines servicing the airport making for relatively regular arrivals, even at reasonable prices (eg BMI, FlyBe). Having only one café and restaurant, Chambéry airport does lack in its amenities. It also lies in a narrow valley, which results in flight delays or diversions on bad weather days. However if everything runs smoothly, it is a great option for getting to the Savoie! Specific journey times to resorts from this airport are indicated on the relevant resort information section.
